Filmmaking Driven by Story, Not Trend

Rowdy Farooqi is a London-based filmmaker and director working across short films and independent cinema, focused on narrative-driven storytelling and cinematic production.

My Approach to Film

My work as a filmmaker is rooted in storytelling that explores internal conflict, human behaviour, and emotional depth.

Rather than chasing trends, I focus on narratives that hold meaning — stories that stay with the audience beyond the screen.

With a background in music and sound design, my films are shaped as much by what you hear as what you see — creating a complete sensory experience.

FEATURED FILMS

WHITE SHADOW is my latest Short film as Writer/Director, which is produced by Earthwalker Films, has been featured at Golden State Film Festival, California and  has been selected as finalist for Gold Remi Award at 56th WorldFest – Huston International Film Festival.

The premise of the films is about our inner mental and emotional struggles. The films presents this as a struggle between desire and conscience, where both want a stronger control over a persons emotions and behaviour.

It is a philosophical piece and the idea for this film came to me after listening to a spiritual discourse by His Holiness Sant Mahraz Trilochan Das Ji.

TRUTH BENEATH MY LIE is one of my latest Short films as Writer/Director, currently in development phase.

The story is about a man looking for the truth about his parentage, confronts a dying man whom he thinks is his real father.

From a spontaneous idea to an unexpected gem, ‘Frank’s Money’ emerged from the creative sparks of a casual gathering. Actor Suki Chott, stunts coordinator Tom Jackson, and I found ourselves idly brainstorming at my place when the notion struck to capture a few impromptu scenes and steeped in improvisation. Yet, as we beheld the final result, it became evident that within the raw footage lay the seeds of a compelling narrative. Thus, fuelled by inspiration, I embarked on a journey of storytelling, weaving together the dispersed threads of our improvised scenes into a cohesive tale. ‘Frank’s Money’ stands as a testament to the unpredictable nature of creativity—wherein a spur-of-the-moment decision yields unforeseen rewards. However, the story of Frank’s Money also serves as a reminder that impulsiveness carries with it the inherent risk of failure, with consequences that can reverberate to the extreme. Through this short cinematic venture, we explore the dichotomy of impulsive action, showcasing the stark reality of its pitfalls.

Television & Radio

Since 2012, I’ve worked across broadcast and digital platforms, producing, directing, and presenting a wide range of content.

Founded in 2013, Southall TV was one of the UK’s earliest fully online television platforms — built before digital broadcasting became mainstream.

As a co-founder, I led production, direction, and on-screen presentation across a wide range of content including talk shows, music programmes, and short films.

It was a community-driven platform and a creative testing ground that allowed me to experiment across formats and develop a multi-disciplinary production approach.
