A Life Built Around Sound, Story, and Creation

Over three decades across music, film, and media — shaping ideas into finished work.

About Me

My name is Rowdy Farooqi. I am a London-based filmmaker, producer, and sound designer with over 35 years of experience across music, film, and television.

I started my journey in 1984 as a session drummer at the age of 13. What began as a passion for music gradually expanded into a broader creative path — spanning music production, filmmaking, and sound design.

Over time, working across different mediums wasn’t a strategy — it was a natural progression driven by curiosity and the need to create.

From Music to Film

Music was the foundation. But limitations in resources early on pushed me to explore video and production out of necessity — learning by doing, often on the spot.

That process opened the door to filmmaking.

Since then, I’ve continued to work across music, film, and television — not as separate disciplines, but as connected forms of expression.

Rowdy Productions

In 2008, I founded Rowdy Productions in the UK.

More than a company, it became a platform to bring together everything I do — film, sound, music, and content production — under one banner.

It allows me to approach projects holistically, without being restricted to a single role or format.

Southall TV

In 2013, I co-founded Southall TV alongside Punjabi lyricist Sukhvir Sodhi.

It was one of the UK’s earliest fully online television platforms — created before digital broadcasting became mainstream.

As a co-founder, I led production, direction, and presentation across a wide range of content including talk shows, music programmes, and short films.

Southall TV became a creative testing ground — allowing me to experiment across formats and develop a multi-disciplinary production approach that continues to shape my work today.

Television & Radio

Alongside independent work, I’ve been involved in television and radio production since 2012.

This includes work with Sangat TV, as well as co-founding Dhoom Radio in 2020, where I worked as Programme Director, Presenter, and Trainer.

CURRENT FOCUS

Today, my work is focused on filmmaking, video production, and sound design — supported by decades of experience in music.

I continue to explore new technologies, including AI-assisted production, while maintaining a strong emphasis on storytelling, sound, and execution.

Programmes & Initiatives

Alongside production work, I also develop initiatives focused on talent development and creative collaboration, including mentoring programmes for emerging artists within the British Asian community.

Approach

I don’t believe in overcomplicating the process.

The goal is simple:
Create work that is clear, engaging, and effective — whether it’s a film, a commercial, or a piece of music.
