This is my story so I thought rather than putting an article about me I would tell it myself in my own way so…
Who Am I?
My name is Zamiruddin Farooqi, but I am known in the business as ROWDY, not because it describes my personality but because of my “Heavy Metal” background. I played drums and wrote music for my own founded rock band “Overdrive” (1994 to 1997) and also played as a session musician for others. My first public performance was in December 1984 at the age of 13. I played drums till 1997 but by then I was already working as an Audio engineer and Music producer.
I always had a passion for filmmaking and would occasionally get involved in music videos and other video projects however video production side of my career actually took off in 1998 when I was offered to produce a music video to celebrate Sikh festival of Vaisakhi in London.
What I Do?
Even though music remained at the heart of my work but I drifted more and more towards filmmaking and video production over the years. In 2008 I founded my production company ROWDY PRODUCTIONS LIMITED in UK so I could freely explore the depths of my passion for both music and filmmaking. Initially I dabbled into a lot of things such as writing Lyrics & Scripts, Music Production, Music Videos, Corporate Videos, TV Commercials, TV Shows, Documentaries… and the list goes on and on. However after a lot of experimentation and of course a lot of fun, I have found my niche in corporate and business related work. That’s why I have focused my company’s services to three key areas:
- Corporate Videos
- Courses and workshops
How Experienced Am I?
In my twenty-five plus years in the business I’ve produced over 30 music albums, more than 100 singles and remixes, about 300 Jingles and mixed/mastered 1000 plus tracks.
I’ve written lyrics for over 200 Songs and jingles including title song for a Bollywood Movie, “Manorma (six feet under)”. I’ve also written scripts for over 200 TV Commercials, Cooperate Videos & Documentaries.
In my eighteen years in video production I’ve produced over 30 Music Videos, 6 TV Series, 4 Documentaries and over 50 TV Commercials and Cooperate Videos.
In May 2014, I worked as both director of photography and director of music for a Hindi short film “Love & Hate”.
The Big Ventures
- In September 2012, I joined forces with two of my friends and together we launched an online channel southalltv.com. It started initially as a YouTube channel but in February 2013 Southall TV was re launched as an independent online channel.
I am the head of Programs at Southall TV and I am also involved in almost every aspect of production.
- In February 2016, I have established a community based online radio channel Southall Radio, under the umbrella of Southall TV.
At present I don't just volunteer as station manager but also presenting a show called Care to Share on Tuesdays 8pm to 9pm.
I am writing and directing a British Asian, political Film, “The Corruptibles” in English language for Southall TV.
This is also an educational project, all the talent are new comers and getting hands on training during this production. Also I have plans to use this as case study in my forthcoming Video Tutorials which I’ve been planning for quite some time.
At present I am working on creating some online courses and I am very much looking forward to launching them soon.
